S.T.A.L.K.E.R: immersion at its finest ?

    avant de commencer j'aimerai préciser que les screenshots utilisées ont étaies prises du site www.jeuxvideo.com et ceci parce que mon HDD a décider de rendre l’âme prenant avec lui dans l'autre monde toute mes saves.

    The S.T.A.L.K.E.R game series is definitely one of its kind probably due to its hazardous game mechanics and its numerous bugs, or maybe just because its vast open world and challenging difficulty but more on that later…

    First game of the series was Shadow of Chernobyl released on the 03/23/2007 developed by GSC Game World which was in charge of the making of all the stalker game. One year latter Clear Sky was released which serves as a prequel to the first game. Finally on the 5th of February of 2010 Call Of Pripyat was released.

    As you’ve probably guessed by their names all games take place in the irradiated region near Chernobyl after the event of 1986 which our fellow slatkers like to call “The Zone”

    Having all the 3 games taking place in the same area will probably make franchise terrible, but here it’s one the strongest points of the stalker games. You see it takes place in the same place but not necessarily in the same time, so each game will have recycled areas from the previous game and new ones as well.
    In Clear Sky seeing how some areas were before the events of the first game made exploring really pleasing and immersive


    In each game the player is given one main quest which will take several hours to be finished, plus dozens of side quests, but most of the time you’ll find yourself just trying to stay alive not an easy task. Brought back the red health bar adding to bleeding damage and all the enemies being elite snipers even with shotguns, and this make pretty challenging games. Without forgetting the crappy weapons you get at the begging making starting a new game like facing the asylum demon in dark souls for the first time, except it’s like that every time you do so…

    GSC Game World did some efforts to make the zone a living and breathing world, the day/night cycle is present, nights are quiet long and really dark, most of the time you’ll find yourself fighting mutants, bandits, the military or the factions thanks to the implementation of the nicely done factions war system.

    Underground area are also present where the player will encounters the strongest mutant, and limited light sources these elements combined will create an atmosphere horror game developers can only dream of.

    Like all others game series Slaker games are not without their flaws and each game come with a long list of bugs, like enemies turning from hostiles to friendly sometimes, and don’t be chocked when you find dead the guy that gave you a guest just a few minutes before when coming to collect your reward, in addition to one of the unbalanced game mechanics, unfair difficulty at the beginning and some mutants having just too much HP,this make it a love it or not game series, and if you can enjoy it depends on wether you can ignore all of its flaws but surely there is only one way to know and that's by playing it.
